Job analysis

The job analysis process

There are four primary data collection strategies of role analysis:

  • observation

  • diaries

  • interviews

  • questionnaires

Whichever method suits the circumstances and context, the key issue is to do something structured and rigorous. The job/role analysis delivers the basis for clearly understood job and work descriptions.

Michael Pearn and Rajvinder Kandola are experts on the process of job analysis. In their book they identify eighteen methods of performing job analysis.
