When sending an application form - it gives you the chance to demonstrate your interest in the job you are applying for
As an expression of gratitude for help given in your job search (recommendation, contact, assistance, advice, etc)
Here's how you might structure a thank you letter:
Refer to the last contact and say why you are writing.
Express your gratitude and give your reasons. If your letter is in follow-up to an interview, reiterate your interest and thank the interviewer for their time.
Close your letter politely in no more than two or three lines.
