Some reasons for sending a thank you letter

  • Following a job interview - this gives you the opportunity to reiterate your interest in the position and the organisation
  • When sending an application form - it gives you the chance to demonstrate your interest in the job you are applying for
  • As an expression of gratitude for help given in your job search (recommendation, contact, assistance, advice, etc)

Here's how you might structure a thank you letter:


Refer to the last contact and say why you are writing.


Express your gratitude and give your reasons. If your letter is in follow-up to an interview, reiterate your interest and thank the interviewer for their time. 


Close your letter politely in no more than two or three lines.
