Thinking about your career plan may be a daunting task. When working through the differents steps we described in this section, try to think about the following:

  • What matters to you in your working like?
  • What do you need and want from work?
  • What are you willing and able to offer?
  • What are your transferable skills? A transferable skill is a skill which can be used in more than one way or place. Most skills are transferable.
  • Which ingredients would make up your ideal job?
  • Have you considered as many factors as you can? This can include location, hours worked, pay and other benefits, colleagues, values, type of organisation.
  • What are the features of your target job?
  • How important are each of the features of your target job?
  • What do you plan to handle better?
  • What kind of compliments do you tend to receive from people?
  • Which kind of problems do you handle very well?
  • When are you at your best?
  • What values do you try to practise hard?
  • What problems have you overcomed recently?
